Bocchi the Rock! Project Compilation Unveils Film Titles

On Monday, the names of the future compilation films for the Bocchi the Rock! anime were announced on the official Twitter account for the series. The original movie is called Bocchi the Rock! The first film is titled Bocchi the Rock! and has a spring 2024 release date in Japan. The release of Re:Re: has been scheduled for the summer.

Originally a four-panel comic by Aki Hamaji, Bocchi the Rock! follows Hitori “Bocchi-chan” (“Loner”) Got, a solitary high school student who finds solace in playing the guitar. Her daily routine consists solely of sitting at home and strumming her guitar. But one day, she meets Nijika Ijichi, who is actively seeking a guitarist for her band titled “Kessoku Band.”

The primary actors in the anime series are:

  • Yoshino Aoyama as Hitori “Bocchi-chan” (“Loner”) Gotō
  • Sayumi Suzushiro as Nijika Ijichi
  • Saku Mizuno as Ryо̄ Yamada
  • Ikumi Hasegawa as Ikuyo Kita

The television animation was helmed by Keiichir Sait (ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. Regards) at CloverWorks. Scripts for the series were overseen and written by Lupin III: Part IV author Erika Yoshida. The Wonder Egg Priority animation director Kerorira was responsible for character design.

Originally airing on MRT Miyazaki Broadcasting, MBS, RKB Mainichi Broadcasting, and AT-X, the anime had its broadcast debut on Tokyo MX, BS11, Gunma TV, and Tochigi TV in October 2022. Crunchyroll provided live coverage of the anime’s Japanese broadcast.

The opening and closing themes were sung by Ikumi Hasegawa (the voice of Ikuyo Kita) of the “Kessoku Band” featured in the anime. The opening song’s title is “Seishun Complex” (Youth Complex), and it was written by singer-songwriter Ai Higuchi and 48foureight band member -otoha-. The KANA-BOON band’s vocalist and guitarist Maguro Taniguchi authored the lyrics and created the music for the finale song named “Distortion!!”

The manga was first published by Hamaji in the December 2017 issue of Manga Time Kirara Max, published by Houbunsha.
