A mysterious girl who meets Denji by chance

Still floating after a date with Makima, Denji is surprised by a sudden rainstorm. He slips into a phone booth to take shelter—and there he meets Reze. She’s a beauty: striking purple hair, green eyes, and a sleeveless blouse that shows pale skin. It’s hard to imagine Denji not falling head over heels.

Warm yet breezy, gentle yet cool, Reze disarms Denji immediately. He starts frequenting “Futamichi,” a well-known local café where she says she works part-time. Reze takes the lead with Denji—who wears his middle-school-brained heart on his sleeve—and the two grow close fast. Where could this relationship be headed?

Festival night—then the truth comes out (spoilers)
After their whirlwind closeness, Reze confesses to Denji one night at a summer festival. She tells him to quit Public Safety and run away together. Her reason sounds simple: “Because I like you, Denji.”

Denji answers with a big, goofy “I like you too!” But he’s also grown attached to the days he’s spent with Makima, Power, and Aki. He admits he wants to keep both his work and his relationship with Reze going. Reze leans in and kisses him—just when it seems bliss is about to begin…

She bites off his tongue.

Reze’s true identity: she’s a weapon hybrid assassin sent to take the Chainsaw Man’s heart, known as “Bomb.” With a sweet “bon,” she pulls the safety pin embedded in her neck and transforms into her battle form. That “chance encounter” was orchestrated from the start.

“Reze” at a glance: her power and nature

According to Beam (a Public Safety fiend), Reze is known as “Bomb.” The exact devil is never formally named, but her look and abilities strongly imply “the Bomb Devil.” Like Denji and Samurai Sword, she’s a “weapon human”—neither devil nor fiend—created through Soviet human experimentation. Her objective: steal Denji’s heart.

Bomb’s abilities

  • Body as ordnance: She can detonate parts—or the whole—of her body at will.
  • Mobility by blast: She can ride her own shockwaves to move with frightening speed.
  • Ranged attacks: She can throw parts like her head and trigger explosions at a distance.
  • Regeneration: Like other weapon hybrids, she heals by consuming blood.
  • Close-quarters prowess: Far from a glass cannon, she excels in hand-to-hand combat.

Her sudden betrayal and overwhelming force result in heavy casualties among Devil Hunters.

Lines you’ll remember from Reze

“Because I… like you, Denji.”

  • Her confession on festival night. Up to this line, both Denji and readers ride a happy high.

“Denji, don’t you like someone else besides me?” “Bon.”

  • Right after teasing this question, she kisses him, severs his tongue, transforms, and goes for the kill—with a disarmingly cute “bon” as she pulls the pin.

“Let me teach you how we fight.”

  • Facing Chainsaw Man, Reze offers a grim lesson: a weapon hybrid’s way of war. Denji learns (for better or worse) from the trial by fire.

“I like country mice too.”

  • After a brutal underwater bout in which Denji cleverly binds her with chains and drags her beneath the waves to nullify her explosions, he revives her—he can’t erase their memories. He asks her to run away together this time. Flustered, she insists her affection was all “just training,” breaks his neck, and flees. Even so, Denji calls after her: “I’ll be waiting at the café!!”

Later, Reze heads for the station to leave Japan, but in the end, she turns away from the train that should have been her escape and chooses the café where Denji waits. She hesitates step by step, but when “Futamichi” finally comes into view, Makima appears and gently says, “I like country mice too.”

Against the most terrifying presence, Reze can do nothing. Thinking to herself, “Why… didn’t I kill him the first time we met?” she’s quietly “dealt with” by Makima and the Angel Devil.

Reze is voiced by Reina Ueda

  • Birthday: January 17
  • Hometown: Toyama Prefecture
  • Notable roles: Miyo Saimori (My Happy Marriage), Mayu Nekoyashiki / Cure Lilian (Wonderful Precure!), among many others
