It has been announced that the manga Girl Crush will be adapted into a television anime series. This project marks the first time a Japanese television anime has been produced with K-Pop as its central theme.
TBS Television and ENISHIYA will handle planning and production. Scheduled for broadcast on TBS and its affiliates, the two companies are collaborating to deliver a story about girls striving to shine within the world of K-Pop idols.

The series is a coming-of-age ensemble drama depicting girls aiming to become K-Pop idols. The original manga began serialization in 2019 under “Comic Nicola,” a label within LINE Manga established jointly by Shinchosha’s fashion magazine Nicola and the manga magazine Comic Bunch. To date, the series has released eight digital volumes and four print volumes, boasting a cumulative circulation of over 900,000 copies.

The title’s popularity extends beyond Japan. In 2021, the Korean edition of Girl Crush won the “New Work of the Year” award at the “2021 RIDIBOOKS COMIC AWARD” in South Korea—the home of K-Pop—attracting global attention.
Following the announcement, original author Midori Tayama expressed her joy: “An anime adaptation of Girl Crush has been confirmed! I get excited every time I see the script. I am filled with gratitude toward the staff for understanding and cherishing this work so deeply. I cannot wait for the day we see Tenka singing and dancing. I hope you all look forward to it as well!”
A newly drawn concept visual features the protagonist, Tenka Momose, fixing the viewer with a cool, captivating gaze. Surrounded by memorable lines from the story, the image conveys the narrative’s passion, realism, and Tenka’s “straightforward strength.” Additionally, a promotional video commemorating the announcement was released simultaneously; it is composed of scenes from the manga centered around this new visual.
