The production floor of MAPPA has become embroiled in the studio and Jujutsu Kaisen scandals.
The production floor of MAPPA was the inspiration for the destroyed structure in the most recent episode of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, Episode 17. This was revealed in a clip released by animator Sota Shigetsugu (@Hone_honeHONE on X, previously Twitter) on November 16.
“This is somewhat of an inside joke,” Shigetsugu explained, “but the structure being demolished in this segment genuinely exists in Shibuya. Since I was unable to locate any photographs or floor plans of the inside, I resorted to destroying the MAPPA Jujutsu manufacturing facility, which was a perfect fit. The workers found it hilarious.”
Users found a Chainsaw Man plushie of fan-favorite Pochita among the rubble, among other Easter eggs from episodes that made references to MAPPA.
Kazuto Arai, a coworker of Shigetsugu’s at the Jujutsu Kaisen, remarked on the post, “My desk got blown away.” After the disturbing X post from the director of the November 15 Jujutsu Kaisen episode, in which a figure who many thought to be Arai was depicted in a gory manner, fans felt relieved to see Arai in relatively good spirits.
Shigetsugu’s incredibly frank discussion of current events at MAPPA continues. On November 11th, he announced that the production time for the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie was just four months, when the average production time for a 30-minute episode is at least one month.
Terumi Nishii, the film’s chief animation director, has lately invited the American acting union SAG-AFTRA to the United States to put some sense into the young people. The voice actor Ayano Fukumiya and herself have said that the anime business is “crumbling.” Nishii, on the other hand, asserts that the situation in Japan will not improve unless the animation industry as a whole organizes.
Crunchyroll hosts both seasons of Jujutsu Kaisen, which is about a high school student with superhuman strength named Yuji Itadori who leads a seemingly normal existence. One day, he eats the finger of Ryomen Sukuna, absorbing the curse into his own soul so that he might save a fellow student who has been targeted by curses.
From that point on, he is fused with Ryomen Sukuna’s body. Guided by the most powerful of sorcerers, Satoru Gojo, Itadori gets admitted to Tokyo Jujutsu High School, an institution that battles the curses… and thus starts the heroic narrative of a kid who became a curse to exorcise a curse, a life from which he could never turn back.”
