Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell, Heavenly Delusion) has revealed at New York Comic Con 2023 that its next scientific fantasy action anime, Kaiju No. 8, would premiere on Crunchyroll exclusively the following year.
Company Khara, the Japanese animation company created by Neon Genesis Evangelion director Hideaki Anno, will be providing monster designs for the next anime, which will premiere in the spring of 2019.
Kafka’s Kaiju Transformation: A Monster’s Ascent
The show, adapted from Naoya Matsumoto’s manga of the same name, is set in a universe where giant monsters (or kaiju) frequently wreak catastrophes. Kafka Hibino, a 32-year-old member of a kaiju clean-up team, has repeatedly tried to join the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force but has been rejected each time.
Kafka acquires the power to transform into a Kaiju after consuming one. Kafka, hiding his new abilities, reapplies to the Defense Force to finally realize his lifelong ambition.
The good news is that the trailer appears to be awesome. Kafka’s childhood buddy and resident badass of the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force, Mina Ashiro, gives us a preview of life in this post-Kaiju era with a fantastic superhero landing.
In amongst the scenes of Kafka, Mina, and co. come the equally vicious and nasty kaiju, who destroy entire buildings and splash tremendous amounts of blood. We also see the kaiju’s disgusting infection of Kafka. The quality is superb. All of this points to Kaiju No. 8 becoming one of the most anticipated new anime series in 2024.
