The TV anime adaptation of Cats and Dragons is officially set to premiere this July on TOKYO MX, BS NTV, and Yomiuri TV. Alongside this announcement, the first character-focused key visual and promotional video—both subtitled “The Dragon and the Cats”—have been unveiled, introducing several new cast members.

The newly released visual and video highlight the bond between the titular creatures. Depicting the Cat-Dragon surrounded by his feline companions in the forest, the illustration almost seems to echo with the cats' cheerful cries of "Uncle Feathers!" It perfectly captures the heartwarming relationship between the gentle, watchful dragon and the cats who adore him.
The promotional video opens with Mama-nyan’s warm voice: "Oh my. Look, everyone, it seems you have another sibling." The footage showcases the deep affection and unbreakable bond of Mama-nyan, who chanced upon a baby dragon and raised him with the exact same love as her biological kittens.
The newly announced cast includes Kikuko Inoue as Mama-nyan, Fuka Izumi as Shirotae, Sho Hayami as Kurobane, Noriaki Sugiyama as Haibuchi, Maki Kawase as Cheekuro, and Shinnosuke Tokudome as Kurotama.
Mama-nyan (CV: Kikuko Inoue)

An experienced mother cat raising her young deep within the forest. Affectionately called “Mom” by her children, she possesses plenty of grit. After a chance encounter, she takes in the Cat-Dragon and raises him as her own. She even has past experience fostering the child of a magical beast.
Shirotae (CV: Fuka Izumi)

A cat who dreams of establishing her own territory. She is a skilled hunter and highly proficient in magic. During her travels, she meets and befriends a human girl named Gari.
Kurobane (CV: Sho Hayami)

A powerful black cat living deep in the forest. He pitches a plan to his siblings to hunt down a bear, and he eventually becomes revered as a hero among the feline community.
Haibuchi (CV: Noriaki Sugiyama)

A rather meddlesome cat who resides in a castle town. His favorite pastime is observing humans.
Cheekuro (CV: Maki Kawase)

One of Kurobane's siblings from the deep forest. Highly curious, they join the others in plotting the bear hunt.
Kurotama (CV: Shinnosuke Tokudome)

Another of Kurobane’s siblings who helps plan the bear hunt. This cat possesses exceptional courage and initiative, far exceeding that of an ordinary feline.

Synopsis
Deep, deep within the forest, a single fire-breathing dragon lives alongside cats who wield magic. Having lost his biological parents before he even hatched, the dragon was raised by a mother cat he met by chance. The cats welcomed the dragon into their family, simply viewing him as a “slightly unusual cat” who could fly and breathe fire. The endlessly curious forest cats all live their lives in their own unique ways. As if to repay his debt of gratitude to his mother, the dragon stays close to the forest cats, constantly watching over them. The cats adore him in return, affectionately calling him “Uncle Feathers.” Humans, on the other hand, speak of him with awe and fear, calling him the “Cat-Dragon.”
Takehito Koyasu stars as the Cat-Dragon, joined by Kikuko Inoue as Mama-nyan, Fuka Izumi as Shirotae, Sho Hayami as Kurobane, Noriaki Sugiyama as Haibuchi, Maki Kawase as Cheekuro, and Shinnosuke Tokudome as Kurotama.
