A TV anime adaptation has been announced for the slapstick romantic comedy Nige-tsuri, Nigashita Sakana wa Okiikatta ga Tsuriageta Sakana ga Okisugita Ken (The One I Let Get Away Was Big, But the One I Caught Was Way Too Big), written by Momoyo Manyo, illustrated by Mitsuya Itsuki, and adapted into manga by Nagato Kaki. The series is scheduled to air in Spring 2026. A teaser visual, teaser PV, main staff, and main cast have been released.

“…It all began with a sudden broken engagement.”
Maria (known as Mimi), a daughter of the prestigious martial arts family, House Annorvazzi, was raised as the family heir despite being the youngest child, thanks to her recognized talent in martial arts. However, when her younger brother was born, she was abruptly relieved of this role. Her father ordered her to find the best possible husband, but all the noteworthy noble sons in the Kingdom of Muuro were already spoken for.
Relying on her distant relative, Aida, Maria travels to the neighboring Kingdom of Rubini to study abroad and dedicate herself to matchmaking. It is there, at the Royal Academy’s graduation party, that Prince Renato—a man she has never met—suddenly declares their engagement null and void! How can he break an engagement that never existed? What will become of Maria’s quest for a husband now?!
The series is directed by Akira Oguro, with series composition by Michiko Yokote, character designs by Isamu Suzuki, and animation production by TROYCA.
The cast stars Yu Serizawa as Maria Annorvazzi, Atsushi Tamaru as Renato di Rubini, Saori Hayami as Aida Ametis, Shuichiro Umeda as Placido di Rubini, and Taku Yashiro as Raimondo Cigata.
