Novelist Yoko Tateno, best known for The Political Marriage of Imperial Princess Sveta: The Strongest Princess Wants to Marry the Second Prince, Not the Crown Prince, passed away on January 17. The announcement was made via Piccoma’s official X account.
Addressing the loss, Piccoma released a statement: “Yoko Tateno, who penned stories for Piccoma Novels, passed away on January 17, 2026. Ever since the inaugural Piccoma Novels Awards, she has been a powerful driving force behind the contest, bringing her work to the world with immense passion.”
The tribute continued, “Beginning with her masterpiece, The Political Marriage of Imperial Princess Sveta, the stories she wove continue to be loved by many readers today. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for her many achievements, and we offer our sincere prayers for her peaceful repose. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her bereaved family.”
Regarding her ongoing serializations, the platform noted that decisions concerning the future of these works will be announced in the “Notices” section of their respective detail pages as soon as they are finalized.
A Western-style romance fantasy, her representative work The Political Marriage of Imperial Princess Sveta: The Strongest Princess Wants to Marry the Second Prince, Not the Crown Prince won the Annual Excellence Award from a pool of roughly 900 entries at the 1st Piccoma Novels Awards in April 2024.
