On February 28, Takeshi Konomi, the creator of the manga The New Prince of Tennis, updated his X account to announce that his currently serialized sequel, The New Prince of Tennis, has only six installments left before its conclusion. Because a single installment can sometimes contain two or three chapters, the exact date of the finale has not been specified.

The Prince of Tennis follows the growth of middle school protagonist Ryoma Echizen and his teammates. The original series ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1999 to 2008. Its sequel, The New Prince of Tennis, has been serialized in Jump Square since 2009. This second series shifts the stage to a global tournament, where Ryoma and his friends engage in fierce matches against national representatives from around the world.

While Konomi had previously hinted that the story was drawing to a close, he officially confirmed the timeline on X: “The New Prince of Tennis is approaching its 17th anniversary, and this summer will mark an incredible 27 years for the franchise as a whole. There are only six installments left until the final chapter.”

He followed up with a heartfelt message to his audience: “Carrying immense gratitude for all my readers and everyone involved, I will tackle this finale while holding fast to the passion I had when I first began. Please be sure to experience Ryoma’s final match in real time.”
