The Anime Sentenced to Be a Hero Will Premiere in 2025

Sentenced to Be a Hero: The Prison Records of Penal Hero Unit 9004 (Ysha-kei ni Shosu: Chbatsu Ysha 9004-tai Keimu Kiroku), a series of light novels by Rocket Shokai, will get a television anime adaptation in 2025, Kadokawa said on Monday.

In October 2020, Shokai published the first installment of the light novel series on Kadokawa’s Kakuyomu website. In September 2021, Kadokawa started printing the series. The fifth volume was released by Kadokawa on August 17.

The novel series has a license from Yen Press, and the second volume will be released on December 12th. As Yen Press puts it, the narrative is

Heroism—a punishment for only the worst criminals. Those sentenced to the fate of a hero are forced to fight at the front lines against the demon king’s army—and if they die, they can expect to be revived and continue the battle. But when their leader, convicted of killing a goddess, meets another goddess himself, the contract they forge may be enough to change the world…

In March 2022, Natsumi Inoue debuted the manga version of the book on Kadokawa’s Dengeki Comic Regulus website. The first volume of the manga’s compilation book was released by Kadokawa in December 2022. The manga will be made available digitally in English by BookWalker Global.
