Season 2 of The Rising of the Shield Hero ran from April 6 to June 29, 2022, meaning it has been well over a year after the show’s last episode.
Season 2’s less-than-stellar fan reaction following Season 1’s stratospheric popularity (January 9 to June 6, 2019) raised the stakes for Season 3, with criticisms made about world-building, character development, and pace. Can it restore faith in the series among viewers?
The third season, based on the isekai light novel by Aneko Yusagi and Seira Minami, also consists of 12 episodes. However, it requires substantial adjustments to the manufacturing process. Season two’s Masato Jinbo is replaced by Made in Abyss director Hitoshi Hago.
Kinema Citrus has taken full control of production, and the authors of the original light novel have confirmed their continued participation in developing the series’ plot. Season 3 is building up to be an outstanding redemption season with Kevin Penkin (Tower of God) returning as the soundtrack composer and the Japanese voice cast remaining unaltered.
