The beloved light novel series, which has captivated over 1.7 million readers, is finally making its animated debut.
September 8, 2025 – Prepare to enter the Labyrinth Country! KADOKAWA BOOKS officially announced today that the massively popular novel series, “The World’s Strongest Rearguard: A Newcomer’s Exploration in the Labyrinth Country” (Sekai Saikyō no Kōei: Meikyū Koku no Shinjin Tansakusha), is being adapted into a television anime.
This celebrated isekai adventure follows Arihito, a former corporate drone reborn into a fantasy world. Bestowed with the enigmatic “Rearguard” class, he discovers it’s the ultimate support role, capable of unleashing powerful attacks, formidable defense, and crucial healing. Alongside a captivating cast of heroines, Arihito embarks on a journey to rise through the ranks and conquer the treacherous labyrinths. With both the original light novel by Towa and the popular manga adaptation illustrated by Rikizo gaining immense popularity, the animated series is poised to be a major event.
To commemorate this huge milestone, the creative minds behind the series shared their excitement. A teaser website and official X (formerly Twitter) account have also launched, giving fans a first glimpse into the upcoming project.

Arihito Atobe was just another overworked office employee until a tragic accident reincarnated him into a fantasy realm known as the “Labyrinth Country.” As a newly minted Labyrinth Explorer, he is assigned the mysterious and unheard-of class: “Rearguard.”
